 SUMMER and SMOKE

 a play by TENNESSEE WILLIAMS

 July 3-31, 2022

Alma Winemiller, a timid, high-minded young woman, is trapped under the overbearing weight of her minister father and mentally ill mother. Hers is a soul that gazes to the stars, but her life is pinioned by the Puritanical values of her household and community. The return to town of a childhood friend, now a talented, promising young doctor, offers Alma a glimpse into a different way of being—but his recklessness and womanizing threaten to destroy them both if they acknowledge their mutual longings.

About Us

Violet Sky was created in 2021 by a small group of Chicago theatre artists looking to reconnect with story telling after the tumultuous years we have collectively experienced.

We believe that sharing stories is the thread that connects us to our own humanity and to the humanity of those around us.

Life is full of little moments. We hope to find some of those fleeting moments  -  the don't-blink-or-you'll-miss-them moments, the sometimes routine and other times remarkable moments  - and share them with you.
